February is a month where the heart is hightlighted - from emotional to physical - keeping the heart healthy is important. While most of the focus is on relationships during this month, our heart health should always be a priority. While most think of cardio as the focus for heart health, yoga also offers mulitiple heart healthy benefits.
One of the main benefits of yoga for the heart is helping to release stress. Movement with breath relaxes the nervous system and releases tension through the body. Relaxing stress helps to reduce blood pressure, and allows our organs to function at a more optimal level.
Another area in which yoga reaches the heart is opening the Heart Chakra, Anahata. Accessing this energy center of the body we open ourselves to seek kindness and compassion towards others. Seeking peace through our interactions with others creates harmony and peace through our body.
For the month of February, our Yoga Pose Challenge focuses on #HeartHealthyYoga poses. Each pose seeks to improve strength, stamina and flexibility while calming the nervous system, energizing the body, and improve blood flow and breathing. Our hearts will feel open and alive each day.
To participate in the #HeartHealthyYoga pose challenge, share the challenge with your friends and post a picture of your body's variation of each day's pose on Facebook or Instagram.
